You see them everywhere from garage sales, thrift stores and even in your kid's room. I even have boxes of them in storage from my childhood. What I am referring to is stuffed animals and plush toys of course. If you have them hanging around, why not sell them online and make some money.
Almost every yard sale has a few stuffed animals for sale and the local thrift stores have hundreds if not thousands of them for sale. Used plush toys can usually be picked up for less than a dollar and be easily resold for much more. I am constantly amazed at how much people will pay for a used toy and not just antique ones. There are kids everyday who lose or have their favorite toy misplaced who will not be happy until the stuffed animal is replaced. I have had parents pay for overnight shipping just to make a child happy again.
Large Toy Organizer
In the past the hot brands were Beanie Babies and Webkinz but lots of other stuffed animals and plush toys will sell very well. I have found that TV character toys like the Simpson's or Family Guy, brand names such as Dakin and Disney and collectible categories like frogs, owls and pigs all do well. There is no end to the stuffed or plush toys that you can resell.
A really important thing to keep in mind is that used stuffed animals should be cleaned whenever possible before you list them online. Little kids have a tendency to put things in their mouth and drag things on the floor including plush toys. You may want to steer clear of used stuffed animals that have a foul odor.
Most stuffed toys are washable as long as they don't include any electronics or mechanical parts. Take six or seven (adjust depending upon the size) plush toys of similar color and put them in the washer set on gentle cycle and wash them with regular laundry detergent in cold water. Add fabric softener to the final rinse and spin dry on fast if your washer has an adjustable spin cycle. Lay the toys out on towels in the sun or indoors and let them dry. Humid environments may cause the toys to dry very slowly so be sure to turn the toys over often to let the air get to all sides.
Once the toys are thoroughly dry take several pictures of them and make sure when you write your listing you note the brand name and the dimensions. Also let the buyers know if the toy is not recommended for small children which will usually be indicated on the tag. After they are listed store them in large zip top bags to keep them fresh and clean.
The benefits of selling stuffed animals include; they won't break in shipping, they can be obtained inexpensively and there is a large audience for this merchandise.
